The Taste of Annandale 5K Race: What you need to know

The Taste of Annandale is just around the corner, and so is the Taste of Annandale 5K Race.

Whether you’ve got many 5Ks under your belt or plan to sign up for your first one, this running race offers a great chance to get some outdoor exercise, explore Mason District Park, and meet new people.

Here are seven things you need to know about the Taste of Annandale 5K:

When: Saturday, Oct. 14, 10 a.m.

Where: The starting line and finish line is in the Kmart parking lot, 4251 John Marr Drive, Annandale, just a few feet from the Taste of Annandale festival, which opens at 10 a.m. on Tom Davis Drive.

Registration: It’s best to sign up online now at Race day registration in the Kmart parking lot starts at 8:45 a.m. and ends promptly at 9:45 a.m. Runners can also register and pick up packets on Friday, Oct. 13, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Mason Government Center, 6509 Columbia Pike, Annandale.

Cost: The registration fee is $25 and $15 for runners under age 14 (plus fees). That includes a T-shirt while supplies last. There had been some confusion about the registration cost; but this is how much it is going to be. The cost will not increase.

Parking: Runners can park in the Kmart parking lot, 4251 John Marr Drive.

Awards: The top three male and female overall winners will receive awards, along with the fastest male and female runners in several age categories: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and up.

Course: After exiting the Kmart parking lot, runners will turn right onto John Marr Drive, turn right onto Columbia Pike, turn right into Mason District Park, run along the trails in the park, exit back onto Columbia Pike, back to Kmart, and through the finish line in the parking lot. Part of Columbia Pike will be closed during the race.
