We’re having an eating contest

On your mark, get set, eat! The person who can scarf down a banh mi the fastest will be declared the winner of the first-ever eating contest at the Taste of Annandale on Sept. 20.

banh mi is a Vietnamese sandwich consisting of a baguette filled with cold cuts and vegetables, such as cucumber and carrot slices, plus coriander and spicy chili sauce. If you want to practice, there are many Vietnamese restaurants in the area where you can try a banh mi.

The eating cost will be in the afternoon. The specific time – and a sign-up sheet – will be announced later, after the Taste of Annandale schedule is finalized. There is no charge to compete.

The eating contest is sponsored by Pho 72 and the Viet American Foundation.

The winner will receive a gift card. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
