Westminster School, one of the Taste of Annandale’s Platinum-level sponsors, offers a rigorous education program with a focus on the arts and humanities in the Classical tradition.
The school, at 3819 Gallows Road in Annandale, enrolls students from pre-K through middle school.
Westminster is in the midst of constructing a synthetic turf athletic field and new playgrounds for preschoolers and older students. Griffin Field should be completed by January 2026, says Admissions Director Jori Schreiner.
The school is undertaking the project to improve physical education for students, facilitate league play, and attract more families.

Schreiner, who’s been at Westminster for 16 years, says, “I fell in love with the school because of our community. The parents, students, and teachers feel like a big family.”
“Westminster instills in students the value of hard work, of striving for excellence, and finding your passion in life – the things that bring you joy,” Shreiner says.
Every year, the school has a theme. This year’s theme is “Dream It, Achieve It.”
Students will focus on their personal goals and dreams, and also learn about the achievements of people from around the world who’ve followed their dreams and achieved success.
Also new this year, Westminster adopted the Let Grow initiative to instill independence in students. “It’s all about encouraging parents to let go, so children can grow,” Shreiner says.
“We’re implementing it as a school to encourage students to take on new challenges in their lives,” she says. Children are asked to do something new, independently, without help from their parents or teachers, and journal about it.
For young children, it could be something like making a sandwich or loading a dishwasher. For older students, independence could mean riding a bike to a store and buying something.
Westminster signed on as a Taste of Annandale sponsor because “We love being a part of the Annandale community,” Schreiner says.
“The Taste of Annandale was a great event last year. We’re still getting interest from people we met there,” she says. “We’re looking forward to being a part of the Taste of Annandale again.”
