Juniper Life and Legacy Planning, a local law firm specializing in estate planning, joined the Taste of Annandale as a Platinum sponsor, because the festival “is a great place to engage with the community in a very direct fashion,” says attorney Bryn Karaus.
Juniper focuses on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare powers of attorney, and advanced medical directives.
Karaus (on the right in the photo) will be at the Taste of Annandale with the goal of talking to as many people as possible about the benefits of advance planning.
“My passion is helping people plan for the future to protect themselves and their families in ways they don’t know is possible,” Karaus says. “By doing planning in advance, you can put in place legal tools to protect your legacy and protect your family.”
Karaus was formerly a lawyer at the federal Department of Transportation, then transitioned to a D.C. law firm where she specialized in oil and gas line safety. She established Juniper Life and Legacy Planning in 2022 because “I wanted to help real humans with their human problems.”

“Planning for our inevitable death and future incapacity is a form of insurance, protecting against the bad things that might happen,” Karaus says.
“Everyone’s circumstances are different. My process is designed to help people understand how the law applies to their particular situation,” she says. Karaus sees estate planning as “relationship-based,” it’s not just producing the same documents for everyone.
“I have a special focus on helping parents of minor children,” she says. Juniper offers a “kids protection plan, that allows parents to identify guardians so their kids will never be taken into foster care.”
