BB&T Bank’s commitment to the Taste of Annandale – as a Platinum-level sponsor – fits in with a key component of BB&T’s mission: “Making the communities in which we work better places to be.”
“People who live and work here come to the Taste of Annandale, so we want to make sure it’s properly funded,” says Raymond Kim, financial center leader and loan officer at the BB&T’s Annandale branch at 4401 Backlick Road.
“We are all about serving the diverse population of the community,” Kim says. The staff includes people who speak Vietnamese, Spanish, and Korean, and Kim co-chairs BB&T’s Multicultural Division for the Greater Washington Region. The bank is actively involved in community service projects and gives employees time off for volunteering.

The bank also hosts free presentations on such topics as banking for businesses and becoming a homeowner. BB&T has held sessions for college students on banking and budgeting basics at George Mason University and several campuses of Northern Virginia Community College.
In addition to all the usual banking services – checking and savings accounts, home loans, business loans, credit cards, and investing for retirement – BB&T provides insurance and joint credit cards, which are useful for families.
BB&T has been serving Annandale since 2004 when the Branch Banking and Trust Co. acquired First Virginia Bank. More changes are on the way, as BB&T is merging with SunTrust Bank to become Truist Financial next year.
While some branches might have to close, Kim anticipates the Annandale BB&T branch will remain open, as it’s one of the top-performing BB&T locations in the D.C. region.
“We’re definitely keeping a presence in Annandale,” he says. “And we’re looking forward to being back at the Taste of Annandale.”
